Mom, Dad & Mollie Comparison Pictures

I thought it would be fun to put up a side by side picture of Mollie next to my baby picture and Jason's baby picture.  His family says she looks like him and my family says she looks like me as a baby.  I see both of us in her for sure.  Here's the pictures I put toghether:

Holiday Card & Baby Announcement

I am in LOVE with the pictures we had taken at ML Portraits!  We have been going there for the past few years and they do such an amazing job.  We have done several sessions there including maternity, newborn, 1 year pictures for Mollie and Christmas card family pictures.  Check out ML Portraits Gallery on Facebook!

Mollie was such a ham during this photo shoot.  I love how the pictures really caught her personality.  On our Christmas card we had a couple pictures of Mollie and then a family picture in the middle.  On the other side we did a pregnancy announcement by doing a picture of all our feet and then a little pair of baby shoes next to us.  I think it turned out perfect!

I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas!  xoxo

Morning Sickness Remedies

I have been hit by the morning sickness bug and it's not a friendly little bug by any means.  I have skipped working out Monday and Tuesday now.  I started feeling queasy on Friday but I pushed through and worked out over the weekend anyway thinking it would help me feel better but the last two days it wasn't happening.  When I was pregnant with Mollie I remember being extremely exhausted the first trimester and I would take a two hour nap almost every day but I wasn't sick at all.  This pregnancy I have experienced the same fatigue but on top of it I have been nauseous almost the entire day for the past five days.  My sister says that means it's a boy because she wasn't sick at all with her baby girl and then when she was pregnant with her baby boy she was miserable.  Only time will tell! :)

So I thought it would be fun to do a little post on some remedies I have found while searching online for something to help make me feel better.

1.  I don't know anything about these but I had to share it just because I thought the name sounded really fun!  Preggie Pop Drops!

2.  Beans?  Okay, I love beans so I'm willing to try this.  I found this info from The Marathon Mom blog.

Ginger Ale - Whenever I have an upset stomach I like carbonated drinks.  Seems strange but I'm going with what works for me!

Crackers are always a safe bet and a good thing to keep on hand.  I notice when my stomach is empty my nausea gets worse.

So I read that sucking on lemons helps but I'm not sure I'm up for that.  I like them in my water, we'll start there!

Last but not least...SLEEP!  Bedtime is my favorite time of day right now.  I need more rest than ever right now.  I will take this advice and hit the sheets right now.  Goodnight! :)

Sunday Run Day (Treadmill Intervals + Strength)

We had a friendly rivalry football game in our house today.  The Vikings played the Lions in Detroit this afternoon.  Jason is a Lions fan and I am a Vikings fan. Twice a year these two teams meet up, once in Minneapolis and once in Detroit.  When the Lions play any other team I am more than happy to cheer them on with Jason.  Just not against the Vikes!  Well they definitely gave us an exciting game.  The Vikings had a chance to score and win in the last few seconds of the game but the quarterback dropped the ball.  Big bummer!  On the plus side, Jason is happy because with this win for the Lions it has given them a chance to get into the playoffs.

Enough about football!  After the Vikings lost I needed a good workout to unwind.  I did a 30 minute interval run/walk on the treadmill followed by some strength training.  I am feeling extremely exhausted today so I had to muster up some motivation to keep going.  Once I got about halfway through my run I started to feel more energetic.

We had gorgeous weather this weekend.  It is unusually warm for December and we don't have any snow on the ground...unheard of!  Yesterday I was able to get out for a 3 mile run and it was 40 degrees out!  Today was 43 degrees but the wind was blowing up to 25 mph so I decided to keep my workout indoors.

I hope you had a great weekend!  What did you do to stay active?

Announcing Pregnancy to Family

Today we made our announcement to immediate family that we are expecting baby #2!  It is such wonderful news to share with everyone.  The reactions have been so fun to listen to.  I had already told my Mom and Dad shortly after we had found out.  This morning I was visiting with my sister and I let her in on the secret.  Then this afternoon I was able to tell my brother (who's wife is also expecting).  When Jason came home from work we went to his sister's house and let her family know the news and then called one of his brothers.  We went to a wrestling match to watch another one of Jason's brother's son wrestle and we told them the news while we were there.  He has one more brother who lives in Arizona and hopefully he will get a hold of him soon to let him know too!

Okay, so that got to be a long explanation of who we told today, but I mainly did that for my own personal memory to look back on.

Now I'm excited to start telling extended family and all of our friends.  I just feel absolutely, down-right giddy right now.  Being able to tell everyone about this very special moment in our life is very exciting.  We love being parents and are overwhelmed with love for Mollie.  We both knew that we wanted to have more kids after we had her.  She has been the biggest blessing in our lives.

Strength Workout & Cardio

Okay, so I'm addicted to Pintrest but since there isn't a rehab program for it yet I will continue on with my never-ending scrolling down the page.  Today I decided to check out my "Work It Out" board and try a workout I had pinned but kind of forgot about it.  Do you find yourself doing that?  You pin all these wonderful workouts, recipes or crafty ideas then completely forget about them.  It's fun to go back through your boards once in awhile and actually put some of them to use!  Today I decided to tackle the jumping jacks & push ups workout shown here:
I must admit I was a little wimpy towards the end and did some of the push ups on my knees.  This was a fun workout to switch things up a bit. After awhile the jumping jacks started to agitate my neck injury so I'm putting this workout on the back burner for awhile.  Maybe I could swap out the jacks for mountain climbers or something else.

I moved on to some cardio after the jacks/push ups workout.  I chose to stay indoors today since it's about 10 degrees outside and the wind is brutal.  I had physical therapy this morning for my neck and my PT guy had just returned from Florida...wishing he would have brought some 70 degree weather back with him! ;)  I jumped on the Nordic Track bike and rode 10 miles while I watched a show that I had DVR'd.  The DVR is loaded since we don't sit down to watch TV very often.  We try to devote our attention to Mollie in the evenings.  She keeps us busy reading books and playing (way better than sitting on our butt watching the tube).

Hope everyone had a great day!! :)

Weekend Workouts

Weekends can be such a struggle.  You work hard all week, you eat heatlhy and you get your workouts in religiously.  Then the weekend comes and you want to D-rail!  You throw the diet out the window and forget about exercising.  I used to do this to myself and then feel guilty Sunday night and tell myself, "Okay, I'll start over Monday".  I have worked really hard to find more of a balance for myself.  I like to have a treat on the weekend.  Whether it's Friday night pizza or ice cream on Sunday.  So in order to have those treats and still stay on track I feel that working out on the weekends is extremely important.

I thought I would share my workouts from the past three days.  I like to switch it up so I don't get bored.  This weekend I did three complelety different workouts.  You might be thinking..."Well isn't the weekend only two days?"  NO!  I consider Friday part of the weekend too.  Friday is just the kick-off to the weekend and healthy choices need to start there.

Friday 11.2.2011
Circuit Workout (about 25-30 minutes)
I read Peanut Butter Fingers blog on a daily basis.  I really relate to her type of workouts so I sometimes look to her for workout ideas when I'm not really sure what I feel like doing and need some inspiration.  I followed a circuit workout she had done with just a few changes.  You can find her original workout here.

Moving on...

Saturday 11.3.2011
Bike Ride
Jason was at a wrestling match watching our nephews (Carson & Brady) wrestle and Mollie was down for her afternoon nap so I decided to get in a quick workout.  We have a Nordic Track bike in our basement family room.  I fired up an episode of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills on the DVR and rode 10 miles.  I love watching TV while on the bike because the times just flies by.
There is something about watching shows like this that make me thankful to have nice and loving people in my life.  These girls are NOT nice!!  Seriously entertaining though. ;)

Sunday 11.4.2011
Outside Run
It was cold today (22F) but the wind was minimal (8mph) so I took advantage and got outside for a run.  I did a 5.16 mile loop and listened to some new music I downloaded on my iPod.  My new add-ons to my playlist are: It Will Rain by Bruno Mars, Paradise by Coldplay, Stereo Hearts by Gym Class Heroes ft. Adam Levine and We Found Love by Rihanna.

Now that I am finished with my 30 Day Running Challenge, it's been kind of nice not to have to run each day.  I enjoy doing different workouts and being able to change it up.  One big plus of doing that challenge is that I am in the habit of working out on a daily basis now.  I have not skipped a day since the challenge ended.  Even if it's just a quick 20-30 minute workout I feel like I need to do something each day.  It gives me energy and makes me feel really good when I stay active.

What's your favorite workout to do when you can't go outside or can't get to the gym?

Dreaming of Quinoa!

I woke up at 5:30 this morning because I could hear Mollie talking in her room.  She usually wakes up once each night and wants her diaper changed before falling back to sleep.  When I went back to bed I had food on the brain.  I had this idea to make quinoa with roasted carrots.  Then I continued to think about what else would be good in that mix.  I had to get up and write this down so I wouldn't forget!  I ended up wanting quinoa, roasted carrots, sauteed onions and chicken sausage with a sesame ginger sauce.  Do you ever find yourself up in the middle of the night and thinking of things you want to do?  I do this ALL the time and if I don't get up and write it down I have a hard time falling back to sleep.

Today has been a great Sunday so far.  Mollie let us sleep in until 8 o'clock.  I made a yummy wrap (high fiber, low carb) with peanut butter, banana slices, fresh blueberries, honey and cinnamon. I had the pleasure of eating breakfast with Mollie this morning while we watched Elmo's World on YouTube while Jason was out walking the dogs.
Peanut Butter Snack Wrap - Recipe from the Tone It Up Nutrition Plan.
I altered it by adding blueberries.  Sometimes I use pumpkin spice instead of cinnamon.

This morning's workout was a 5.16 mile run outside (I needed to burn off the Scotcharoo bar(s) I ate last night!).  The temperature was 22F with an 8 mph wind.  I bundled up with a thermal long sleeve shirt, running jacket, running pants and an ear warmer.  I brought gloves along but took them off halfway through my run because my hands were sweating like crazy.  I honestly can't believe we are now in the month of December and the ground is not covered in snow yet.  Very unusual for South Dakota this time of year.  I'm NOT complaining!!  :)

Okay, so now on to this quinoa mix I had been dreaming about.  Since I knew I wanted this for lunch I cooked the quinoa before I went on my run so I would be able to eat right when I got home.  All I had to do was chop up a carrot and roast it in the oven, sautee some onion on the stove and cook the chicken sausage on the George Foreman grill.  In about 15 minutes I had lunch ready.

Chicken Sausage Quinoa Bowl
1/2 C quinoa, cooked
1/2 large carrot, chopped
1/4 white onion, sliced or chopped
1 chicken sausage link
1 tsp extra virgin olive oil
Handful of snap peas (in the pod)
Seasonings: garlic salt, paprika, pepper, cayenne pepper, Mrs. Dash original
Pam Olive Oil spray

Cook quinoa according directions on package and set aside.  I like to do this ahead of time and have it on hand in the fridge.  Using Pam Olive Oil spray, grease a 9x13 baking sheet.  Spread out chopped carrot on cooking sheet and spray carrots with a light coat of the Pam spray.  Season with garlic salt and black pepper.  Bake at 400 degrees for about 10-15 minutes, stirring once halfway through cooking.  In a skillet on medium heat cook onion with olive oil, cayenne pepper, Mrs. Dash original and a little garlic salt.  When onions are cooked add in the snap peas and cook on low for about 3 more minutes so they stay a little crispy.  If you have a Foreman grill you can cook the chicken sausage in about 5 minutes.  Otherwise just cook according to package directions.  Slice sausage into bite size pieces.  In the skillet with onion and snap peas add in the roasted carrots, sausage slices and quinoa.  Stir well until quinoa is warmed up.  Serve immediately.  Makes one serving.
**Optional: I added some sesame ginger sauce I had in the fridge.  Feel free to add a tablespoon of your favorite sauce, stir-fry sauce would work.  I like to choose something thats low in sugar and sodium.
ENJOY! :)

Roasted carrots (cut into small pieces to shorten roasting time).
I like big slices of onion but you could also chop these up smaller if you prefer.
Add in peas at the end to heat up but keep them crispy.
Mmmmm, chicken sausage with mozzarella and artichokes.
Mix all together until quinoa heats up.
Toss in a bowl and enjoy! :)

BIG News!

As I write this I am beyond excited to announce that Jason and I are expecting!  I am going to wait to publish this post until after family has been told of course!  This pregnancy means the world to me.  Jason and I tried for three years before we were able to get pregnant with Mollie.  We ended up seeing a fertility specialist and went through the process of IUI.  Luckily for us it worked the first time.  We knew after we had Mollie we definitely wanted to have more children.  Being a parent is the biggest blessing we could ever imagine.

My little Miss Mollie 8 days old.

This time around we did not seek the help of fertility treatments.  We wanted to try on our own for awhile and a little over a year later we have this wonderful news to share.  Jason was out on an all day hunting trip when I took the pregnancy test at home.  When the result said "pregnant" my eyes instantly welled up as I was overwhelmed with joy.  It was a feeling I can't even begin to describe.  I just kept thinking that this was too easy this time.  I honestly wasn't sure I would be able to get pregnant without going back to the doctor for fertility treatments.  I feel like I am in a fanstastic dream and things are just falling into place for us.

Jason wasn't going to be home for another five hours so I had some time to come up with an idea of how to tell him that he was going to be a Daddy again.  I decided to write him a note from Mollie and have her hand it to him when he walked in the door.  Here was the note:

I had to record this moment, I knew he was going to be shocked! :)
(VIDEO WILL BE UPLOADED HERE SOON) go to link below to watch now:

Now we are trying to decide when to tell family and friends.  I of course had to spill the beans to someone so I called my Mom the following day and she was very happy for us.  We decided we would tell our immediate family members before Christmas.  Everyone else will find out when they receive our Christmas card in the mail...

We already had family pictures scheduled for the following Thursday so Jason and I thought it would be fun to do some kind of announcement on our Christmas card this year.  I found a couple of ideas on Pintrest that I showed our photographer and she was more than happy to help us out.

This is my favorite idea that I found, I can't wait to see how our version turns out!!  I go to ML Portraits on Friday, Dec. 9th to view the pictures and decide what we want to do on our Christmas card and what family pictures I will order to put up around the house.

During this pregnancy I am going to continue running and working out on a regular basis.  I realize I have to scale it back a bit but I plan on having a fit and healthy pregnancy.  I have done a TON of research on running/exercising during pregnancy and there are so many wonderful benefits.  In my posts to come I will document some of my workouts, favorite healthy meals and do's/don'ts of pregnancy.  I am very happy and excited to share this journey with all of my family and friends.

I can't wait to tell family so that I can post this soon!!  :)

xoxo

UPDATE: We have officially made the announcement to family, obviously or you wouldn't be reading this post yet! LOL :)

Turkey Day 5k

I have been so excited to run the Turkey Day 5k.  I have ran other 5k races during the Summer months but never have I ran a race during the Winter.  I was worried because it snowed last Saturday and I wasn't sure about running on snow packed roads.  Luckily the temps were in the 40's this week and the snow melted off of our 5k route.
(Scroll to bottom to see my iPod playlist for my run today!)

RESULTS:
Time - 23:24 (PR) Pace - 7:31/mile
Place - 11th of out 108 females/ 42nd out of 208 male & female combined

Playing with Stoli before leaving for the race.

Favorite Things

I had the best intentions of doing a "fave things Friday" every Friday but I have missed the past 2 weeks!  Oops, so let's get caught up and post this on a Monday...who says we can't bend the rules a little?!

In no particular order and no specific subject, here are some of my favorite things right now!

1.  BOOTS!  One perk to the weather getting colder is getting to wear fun boots.  I recently ordered a pair online from JustFabulous.  It's a site where you take a quiz, they figure out your style and each month they give you a selection of shoes, purses and jewelry.  If you don't like anything in your showroom that month you just skip and pay nothing.  If you like something you pay just $39.95 and shipping is FREE!  I am also a memeber of ShoeDazzle (same exact concept as JustFabulous).

2.  Treadmill Workouts
We officially have snow on the ground now so I have been doing my daily runs on the treadmill.  I get extremely bored if I don't have a run plan before jumping on.  Some days I sit down and make up my own or I search the internet for treadmill workouts and adjust the speeds to my fitness level.  I like to do lots of intervals between walking, running and sprinting, sometimes I add in some incline to really work the legs and tush!

3.  Homemade Pumkin Puree
My sister-in-law grows an amazing garden during the Summer and I was lucky enough this Fall to receive some of her pumpkins.  I made pumpkin puree and stored it in zip lock bags in the freezer so I have plenty on hand to use in recipes for smoothies, fruits dips, mix with yogurt and to make yummy baked goods.

4.  New Family Vehicle
Jason has had his 1998 GMC Yukon for 10 years and for the past two years he has been looking to get a new ride.  We finally took the plunge this past week and we bought a Cadillac Escalade and we are in love with it.  Mollie is especially liking the built in DVD player which came in handy on our four hour trip to Minneapolis this past weekend.  We watched Little Mermaid (my favorite) while Jason drove.  I think Mollie was more fond of Dr. Suess which I can't even count how many times that was played in a 24 hour period! ;)

5.  Peanut Butter on EVERYTHING!
I recently discovered the wonderful combination of peanut butter and cream cheese on whole wheat bread.  This is a fabulous treat after a hardcore morning run.  I ate this paired with some scrabled eggs topped with hot salsa.  (This meal was from the breakfast buffet at our hotel in Minneapolis.)

One more peanut butter bliss combo: whole grain Kashi waffles, topped with natural peanut butter, sliced apples, cinnamon and 100% pure maple syrup.  Stack it like a sandwich and enjoy with a fork.  Next time I will cut out one of the waffles, one is plenty.  My husband saw me eating this and immediately needed to have one himself.  Pure heaven in your mouth!

6.  Mollie's Accessories
I just think it's so stinking cute when Mollie has a bow in her hair or wears a hat.  Little girls are so adorable with accessories!

7.  Thanksgiving Week
I like this week for a number of reasons:  Jason and I only have to work three days, I am running an Turkey Day 5k and we get to spend Thanksgiving day with family eating really yummy food!  Happy Thanksgiving everyone! :)
